It's Very Complicated

The scope of politics

Politics is the science of government. The existence of science to its meaning give me the reason why it is a complicated component in the society.

Politics are very complicated because of some aspects. One of these are the politicians. From what I know, politicians are the ones who actively engaged in politics. Some of them really studied political science and other in-depth studies before making it to their positions or aspiring a position in the government. But did their subjects include the study corruption or training to do corruption and other things which will do no good for the government? As a person who attained a higher education than others, they should be respectable and well-mannered. They should be an example to the commoner since they are public figures.

Political opinions especially from other people added to the reasons of making things complicated in this field. People give reactions without hearing and understanding first the issues that arises. People comment without thinking of the reasons of such issues. People complain as if they are good citizens.Yet, we cannot blame the people for saying and doing such because issues in the politics are apparent to our eyes. We cannot forgo the fact that we are also involve in politics.

I realized that those complication on politics gives the true meaning and essence to it. That's its nature, isn't it? All we can do is to ease the burden of politics in the government by being just in our opinions, complain less and take more actions and most especially, being a good citizen.

Tips on How to Save Money (According to the thrifty me! =))

"You can achieve more than this!"
People nowadays spend too much money for something that wouldn't really last. While some were having a hard time thinking of ways on how they can save money. With these, I listed some tips which I thought would at least help you to save money. These are the following:
  1. Know exactly your money. How much money do you have in your pocket right now? Count it and calculate the scope of your money. Is it just for a day, for a week, or for a month? If you’re working, when is your next payday? You have to know these things for you to manage your money well.
  2. Know your expenses. Yes, you have to know your expenses for you to save money. Listing down your expenses within the scope of your money will surely help you in the saving process. Include in your list the prices of the things you will buy (focus on your needs). The list will the basis of how money you should spend for the day, week or months.
  3. Be wise on your expenses. Prioritize your needs rather than your wants. Don’t spend too much money for something that you will not use. If possible, go on for sales of the things you will buy for affordable yet still good quality and quantity. If you're going to buy something, for example in a grocery, it is better to go on packs and bigger products than not because "tingi-tingi" is much expensive that just buying the whole of it. If you're a student or working, have a packed lunch so that it will lessen your expenses for the day.
  4. Have a coin bank. Sounds traditional right? But having a coin bank is still effective especially if you have a discipline. You'll never know what a single coin can reach. You can also have a separate wallet which you can put your excess money for the day.
  5. Have a purpose. Ask yourself the purpose why are you planning to save money. Is it really worthy to save money for that? Think of it.
  6. Control yourself. Self-discipline is indeed an important factor here. Control yourself from those expensive desires.
I hope these tips help you. These are just based on my ways of saving my money. There are still more ways you can do. Saving money doesn't mean you should be frugal. Remember that money isn't everything that matters. Happy saving! ☺

Plans and Goals in the Year of the Horse

Its been a tradition for most of us to have a New Year's resolution. Well, honestly, I was not fond of writing such because of the feeling that I would not be faithful to everything I would write. However, just to motivate myself for something to expect and to do this year, I made a list of my plans and goals to keep on track. Here's the list:
"Be like a horse."
  1. Invest for books
  2. Make a vocabulary notebook
  3. Make a devotion notebook
  4. Travel to places I have never been
  5. Buy a new cellphone
  6. Complete the Holy Masses
  7. Get good grades
  8. Read at least 50 books
  9. Develop better study habits
  10. Have a better time management
  11. Increase  my weight
  12. Save more money
  13. Complain less,
  14. Have a break once in a while
What could you say? I intentionally listed 14 because of our present year 2014, the year of the Wood Horse.

I read from the The Philippine Starweek on January 26, 2014 that the year of the wood horse, in general, would bring optimism to all of us - personally, professionally and spiritually - and it would be an abundant period of action, entertainment and achievement. It would also bring new beginnings for many of us These were their prospect for this year. We could actually make these as our motivation in setting goals and making our plans.

In line with this, we cannot hide the fact that plans and goals were not always achieved at the end of the day. Nevertheless, we have to make and think of these for us to have something to reach for. Once we had reached or achieved any of these, at least, we have something to be proud of. Something that would make us feel contented and successful.

One last thing, be like a horse who has the determination to get to the finish line. Go for the goals!

Peace is the Key

Nowadays, everything in the world seems so wrong. A woman got raped, there were parents who abused their child, unending negative issues in the government, terrible accidents that had happened, inhuman acts and cruelty - these were some of the nauseating news that we often hear everyday. Added to these were the sins and mistakes that contribute to the disagreeable world.

A representation of world peace.
I just realized that the essence of peace and order was lacking here in earth. However, I also believed that there would be a perfect time that we could finally be free to all these issues and dramas in life, and peace would be the key to that. How could we achieved peace and order, anyway? As I was trying to find the answer to this question, I remembered the poem that I made in one of our subjects last semester. Let me share the poem:

If only … Therefore …

If only Eve never ate the apple from the Tree of Knowledge,
There would have been no right nor wrong
Therefore, there would be no sinners.

If only history showed no record of wars,
‘History repeats itself’ would have always been positive
Therefore, there would be freedom from strife.

If only some politicians were not corrupt,
There would have been no ‘pork barrel’
Therefore, our country would be at ease.

If only citizens would obey the laws,
The police would never be seen
Therefore, we would achieve peace and order.

If only adults would be like children,
Everyone would be innocent,
Therefore, there would be no explanation of things.

If only teenagers were responsible enough,
They would think twice before making decisions
Therefore, they would be in the right way.

If only people would read 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8,
They would understand what love is
Therefore, everyone would be in love and would always be.

If only people would learn how to listen,
There would be no misunderstanding
Therefore, we would all live in harmony.

If only everyone would be honest,
There would be no liars
Therefore, trusting would be easy.

If only people would stop complaining
And start doing their part
Therefore, there would be tranquility.

If only people would be sensitive enough,
They would become aware
Therefore, they would care.

If only you knew how to say “Sorry”,
Wrong deeds would have been forgotten
Therefore, you would have been forgiven.

If only you knew how to say “Thank you”,
Small things would have been appreciated
Therefore, everyone would have said “You’re welcome!”

If only you would seize the day,
You would be satisfied with your life
Therefore, you would be ready to be in your deathbed.

If only everyone would read the Bible,
And make it their food for living
Therefore, everyone would feel that they are blessed.

And if only people would trust the words of God
We would never worry; instead we would be still
Therefore, there would be peace in our hearts.

Did the poem made sense to you? I hope so. And I also hope that this would make sense to others.

We could still change for something pleasant. We should not only be good, as a Christian and citizen in our country, we should also be nice. Another thing was that the world was supposed to be enjoyed. We could make it to something peaceful. And I was really praying for that. (Sigh.)

Modern Memes

Have you seen those pictures together with a funny captions in the social media? They call those as "memes".

A meme (/ˈmm/meem) is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture." A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena. The word meme is a shortening (modeled on gene) of mimeme (from Ancient Greek μίμημα Greek pronunciation: [míːmɛːma] mīmēma, "imitated thing", from μιμεῖσθαι mimeisthai, "to imitate", from μῖμος mimos "mime").

In our modern world, these memes becomes offending, sarcastic, truthful and funny. Imagine someone who will make a meme for you like the photo below. How would you feel? If I'm that person, I will be offended and hurting inside because I don't think I deserve that. I honestly laughed when I saw that picture and that's why it's very offending in her part. I'm not KJ about this. I just want to tell the truth that not all were happy with these kind of memes.
A meme for Janet Napoles
Memes were also sarcastic. You will see in Facebook that some users make use of memes just to have a comment sarcastically.

Some memes also shows true concepts and honest facts or observations of any things, events or situations.

A meme showing the fact of what teachers do
Most of the time, memes just entertained the people by exaggerated captions.

This scene come from the new show in Kapamilya station - "The Legal Wife"
No wonder why these memes became one of the trending photos in the social media. Nevertheless, people should be very considerate in making these memes.

The Tragedies that flashed before the Eyes of A Child

There was a time when a child had seen too much. A tragedy not just once but twice.

Year 1999, the first tragic moment flashed before my innocent eyes. Our house in Marikina City was caught by fire that started from the door next to us. I was only 4 years old then but I could still remember bits of details of what had happened. People were screaming ... "Sunog! Sunog!" Then some men started coming to our house to help moving out our stove, electric fans, and other things from the house that are most important. Of course, we also moved out from our house as fast as we could. I was crying because I saw the flames were getting bigger and our house getting out of my sight. The house of my childhood memories had gone.

This photo is a visual representation of what happened to our house.
We stayed to my Aunt's (paternal side) house until we found a place to live in and start a new life. As we thought of starting a new life here in Antipolo City, another tragic moment had happened.

On August 3 in the same year at around 8:00 in the evening, Cherry Hills Subdivision had landslide. Its because more than 500 millimeters of rain that had fallen from August 1, breaking a 35-year record. We were lucky that we were not residing in the said subdivision but our village was just down the hill.

Above photos are the results after the landslide
Our neighbor kept on screaming, "Guguho ang Cherry Hills!" We have to save our valuable things fast then moved out of the house and found a safe place to go. Imagine a young child who was pressured saving the little yet important things that she have. It was still raining then and people were panicking - moving to and fro. My tears fell again because of the fear I had inside. I was crying because I still have a trauma on the fire.

The day after that, we were safe, without a place to live in.

There were few nightmares that I have been experiencing since then. Now, they're finally gone. Thanks be to God because I cannot bear to have dreams of flames, cracked walls and people screaming for help that really became a traumatic experiences to me.

Its been 14 years, those were just a memoir of the past and the child has already moved on.

Designing A Resume'

Resume' is a document that presents a brief summary of educational achievement with honors, if available, work experiences, skills, work experience, skills and qualifications, plus a brief list of references for good behavior and work performance. A resume' is also known as bio-data or curriculum vitae. (Agalabia, Rabe-Aranda, Alde-Sembrano, College Freshman English)

To design your resume', here are the specific areas that are usually included in the content:

1. Heading. This is located at the top of your resume. It identifies you through your contact information: your full name, address, e-mail (if you have one), and mobile or telephone number. your name should be emphasized by making it slightly bigger font than the others.

Along with the heading is your picture which is usually 2x2 in size. The picture should be formal, present and of course, it should be the real you. (Ignore the cute little panda above. :))

2. Employment Objective/s. This is a statement of your goals why you wish to apply. This also describes the kind of employment you are seeking. If this is clear in your cover letter or application letter, then you can omit this.
3. Educational Background. Other call  this as 'Scholastic Records'. Begin with the present and the highest degree you have attained. You can have this from vocational, tertiary, secondary and the least is elementary level.

4. Work Experience. This is your employment history. Always begin with the present or the last job you are employed in. List the position, employer's name or the company and include the job descriptions.

They are also looking for personal data that fit to their requirements. You can include here other things such as list of honors, awards and other achievements you have.

7. Character References. This is the part you should not forget. Here, you can cite at least two people who really know you, he can be your close friend, neighbor, former employer but not your family. Their contact information such as full name, home address, title or position, address of business, company or organization he belongs to and contact number.

Up Up in the Sky Ranch!

Holiday would be one of the perfect time for some leisure trips and travel. So, while reminiscing Jose Rizal’s life last December 30, my family and friends spent the day in Tagaytay’s newest tourist destination – Sky Ranch.
The Sky Ranch facade.
Sky Ranch was developed by SM Commercial Group and SM Development Corp. and still in the process of redefining the land to a much scenic and exciting place to visit. The place’s amusement park called Sky Fun was what attracted us to the place.

The entrance fee does not include rides. You still have to buy tickets from the ticket booth for the rides. Good for us because we are the only people that day who has availed the ride all you can tickets. That was because we booked for it.

Since the place was still new, the rides were not as many and as in the other amusement parks. However, they offer other enjoyable trips such as horseback riding (Sky Loop) and zip line which is one-way and two-way. They also have a lot of gazebos that you could rent for a place to eat and stay inside.

Super Viking for a thrilling ride!
Star Cruiser for pair bonding!
The main attraction of the park was the Sky Eye. At 207 feet, it was said to be the country’s tallest ferris wheel. Its passenger capsule were enclosed and with air-conditioning units. Well, that fact didn’t make any changes on how we feel because it is also a fact that the cold air was not an unusual thing in Tagaytay.

Sky Fun's poster advertisement.
With Sky Eye - the county's tallest ferris wheel!

The Sky Eye's passenger capsule.
They said that when you’re already inside, it offers a majestic view and I had proven it right. I was like “WOW!” while viewing the Taal Volcano at 207 feet. I also found the place very romantic because of the awesome sunset and the stunning lights at night.

"Beautiful."
Another angle of Taal at 207 feet.
Our day in the park ended with a striking fireworks display. I felt that we were really at the right time visiting the place. The whole Sky Ranch experience was not as spectacular as the other's have experiences but the memory of it is.

Book Review: "Being the Best You Can Ever Be"

Last year, I was glad that a new title has been added in my bookshelf (Well, thanks to my brother and sister-in-law for a valuable birthday gift!).  The book is called “Being the Best You Can Ever Be” by Francis J. Kong – the country’s top inspirational and motivational speaker, conducting more than 300 trainings and seminars a year and also has a weekend column in The Philippine Star Business Section (which I used to cut-out for clippings since I had read his book).

The front book cover
His book as it says was ‘an easy read and yet it’s no walk in the park. Because to succeed in life and be the best you can ever be will take a lot of hard work’. It was intended to everyone especially to those who always find themselves musing and murmuring words of despair. It was an easy read because you can easily relate to the situations given as examples that were based on the author’s own encounters which were also the usual things that we can observe around us. Honestly, after reading the book, I felt like something was missing in myself and that was personal growth. It seemed that the author was really talking to me and giving me words of wisdom about it. The words will hit you for good and will made you think of things that really matters in bringing out the best of yourself.

Let me summarize the book by giving you the titles of the contents: ‘Life Is No Longer Simple, “I Hate My Job! #%*!”, What do you do?, Oblivious Of The Obvious, How Fast Time Flies, Success And Failures, Where Your Worth Comes From, Personal Growth Should Be Intentional , Personal Growth Requires Investment, Personal Growth Will Be Challenged, Personal Growth Requires A Process Of Learning, Personal Growth Requires Daily Action, You Have To Observe And Absorb, The Four Levels Of Learning, Inspire And Aspire, Check Your Attitude, Build On Strengths, Work Around Weakness; Be Contented But Also Be Discontented, Update And Upgrade Yourself, and You Never Know What To Expect. The book as a whole was very inspirational and motivational.

Another thing that I love about the book was Kong’s writing style. It was simple yet very appealing. He was direct to the point and he was able to share his viewpoints concisely, clearly and creatively.

Go read the book and be the best you can ever be!
