Modern Memes

Have you seen those pictures together with a funny captions in the social media? They call those as "memes".

A meme (/ˈmm/meem) is "an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture." A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena. The word meme is a shortening (modeled on gene) of mimeme (from Ancient Greek μίμημα Greek pronunciation: [míːmɛːma] mīmēma, "imitated thing", from μιμεῖσθαι mimeisthai, "to imitate", from μῖμος mimos "mime").

In our modern world, these memes becomes offending, sarcastic, truthful and funny. Imagine someone who will make a meme for you like the photo below. How would you feel? If I'm that person, I will be offended and hurting inside because I don't think I deserve that. I honestly laughed when I saw that picture and that's why it's very offending in her part. I'm not KJ about this. I just want to tell the truth that not all were happy with these kind of memes.

Memes were also sarcastic. You will see in Facebook that some users make use of memes just to have a comment sarcastically.

Some memes also shows true concepts and honest facts or observations of any things, events or situations.

Most of the time, memes just entertained the people by exaggerated captions.

No wonder why these memes became one of the trending photos in the social media. Nevertheless, people should be very considerate in making these memes.

  1. I agree that memes are funny yet sarcastic print portrayal of a character or famous figure in the society or in the political arena. These are no different from the lashing tongues of impersonators who make their audience laugh at the expense of others. Yet I do understand also the point of those who make memes. They are humorous and they expose the wrongdoings of crooks in the government. But what about those innocent people who are made fun of because of their looks? That's clearly a prejudice against humanity.
